This is a beautiful project and I'm really proud to be able to create their branding.
A friend, and amazing human being, Luis Johnson with some of his friends run this home in Dominican Republic. There, around 20 orphan girls get shelter, food, education and a way out of extreme poverty. I hope that I can keep helping them for a long, long time.

INTERNET: SECOND LIFE WORLD "El dorado"

This year I had the chance to participate in the creation of a second life world called "El Dorado". The name came from the idea of creating a place where people can discover the treasures of the Latino culture. The building is a Favela shaped into the form of a Mayan pyramid. The Favelas are the places where the originality of Latin America is emerging via music, arts and survival techniques. To my understanding, those are our real treasures. The logo is where this two ideas meet but is also a symbolic representation of the A and U, the chemical nomenclature for gold.

I really liked this campaign when I created it in 1998. Back then everybody was too focused on the visual solution so they didn't payed much attention to it, nor did it win any awards, but I kept it in my portfolio. Today it is the one that gets the best feedback from people.
The reason why I've always kept it in my portfolio is not because I thought it was an amazing piece of advertising but because this project taught me 2 very important things: The incredible power of a good headline and that I could write them.

FARMAX TV

Farmax is a Chain of Pharmacies in the Dominican Republic. From the outside they look like any other Pharmacy chain store: white, modern and with isles filled with a bunch other stuff that has nothing to do with medication. Their big difference was tradition (The original pharmacy is one of the oldest business in that country that's still functioning) but nobody had the slightest idea about this tradition. So without bringing up the past and without being able to change the look of the brand AND with only 3,000 US. Dollars.(100,000. $RD.) we created this ad and from this ad on, we started building a brand with a modern look but with an old soul.

The ad reads: The service you experience here, comes from a century old pharmaceutical tradition. Farmax. We take care of your health.

NISSAN TITAN

While we where thinking about global warming I kept asking myself how did we get here? What is the core of all the debacle that we're about to experience? Thinking about that, I realized it was greediness, that the blind desire for profit above any cost is the fuel for global warming and the destruction of our planet. Out of those thoughts emerged this ad. (you can click on the ads to enlarge them)

When 3M gave us the Scotch Brite account for Dominican Republic in 2004, they had a situation where people where buying the bad quality imitations to save money. To solve the problem we came up with a campaign placed in supermarket trolleys (to communicate the message right before purchase) with this concept. "it's not how much you pay, it's how much it will last". Here is my favorite ad from the works we did for them.

There are some works I made while I was still in school that I'm still proud of to show. This is one of them. I created this piece with Adam Cook in 1999 and today I still find that it conveys the message in a magical and original way. This ad was also published by C.M.Y.K. Magazine, that's the other reason why I still show it around.

Hyundai Santa Fe

These ads are part of all the work we did for Hyundai in Dominican Republic between 2002-05. When Oveja Negra/TBWA won the account, Hyundai was perceived as one of the worst automobile brands in the country. Today Hyundai is one of the most sold cars in that country and it's perceived as a good-quality cool car. I like to think that we where part of this huge transformation.

Nespresso

We came up with these ads in Dominican Republic for business magazines. The objective was to get business men to purchase the Nespresso Machines for their office. I think it turned out as something bigger than that: A new positioning for the brand as the coffee for people that would never order a regular cup of Joe.
